Mount Gilman

From Mount Gilman, looking towards Cardigan.

There's already ice along the trail in many places.

From the Gilman summit, looking at Cardigan.

At Rimrock, looking south into the bright haze.

Rimrock with the Cardigan summit in the background.

From Cardigan's South Peak, looking up at the Cardigan summit.

At the summit of Mount Cardigan,
I met this ranger fixing up the weather station for the winter.

Inside the blockhouse, showing the generator on the right, and
banks of batteries on the left.

Several more guys arrived with replacement batteries, which they
drove all the way up from the Canaan parking lot in this cute little
tracked vehicle.

Several shots of Cardigan summit, looking south from Firescrew,
along the Manning Trail. The hazy glare tends to wipe out the
firetower and weather station at the tip-top.

Several mood shots of ice formations along the descent of
the Manning Trail.

I really like these little ice cascades, which have melt water
running along underneath them, looking like flickering liquid
flames, or an upside down lava lamp!

Parting views of Cardigan from the shoulder ridge of Firescrew.

15:30 Back at car and parking lot.
15:45 leave parking lot
18:15 back in Boston
