Leaf Peeping at Mount Kearsarge, 7 October 2008

Mount Kearsarge is a new favorite of mine. It's near home, prominent (2000 ft higher than anything else nearby) and the Flying Goose brewpub is handy for afters. Also it can be a very short and easy hike if you go from Rollins State Park (350 ft rise) and I saw little toddlers and dogs coming up this way. I went from Winslow State Park (1100 ft rise) which is about a 4 hour hike for Larry and me.

Views during the ascent of the Winslow trail. That's Larry with the backpack, fascinated with the alpine landscape near the summit.

Several shots of this old summit house against the White Mountains. That white thing behind the mountains is Mount Washington, not a cloud.

Me, against the Whites.

Old (1886) and new at the summit.

Larry is ready to head down.

A tree that looks like it's survived some mighty serious troubles. I patted it with respect, hoping I can bear mine as well.

Views during the descent of the Barlow trail. We have another funky tree.

Bright foliage in the birch forest, and at parking lot.
