Building CottonTree Lodge, Belize - Index
CottonTree Lodge is a
new eco-tourism resort, under construction in southern Belize, on the
banks of the Moho River, about 10 miles west of Punta Gorda.
CottonTree Lodge is being created by several entrepreneurs in Boston
and New York, and funded by private investors (like me). The week of
20-26 February is a combination of (a) volunteer work week, to help
get construction started, (b) some vacation time for the volunteers,
including river cruises, jungle hikes, and reef diving, (c) the first
shareholder's meeting. Me, I'm happy to get a change of scene, do
some exploring in Belize, and observe how this new entrepreneurial
venture works, up close and personal.
Fun in the sun
While part of the week will be work time, there'll be ample
opportunity for R&R. I don't have a schedule yet, but here are some
of the events being planned:
- Reef diving at Frank's Caye, via Reef Conservation International
- Canoeing on the Moho River
- Hikes in the jungle, with local guides
- Exploring local archeological sites, many of which have never been excavated or documented
