Bath Renovation: Finish and detail work
Bath Renovation: Finish and detail work
Day 15 (Monday, 25 March) Painting and finish fixtures
This was Ralph's last day of work! He painted all the woodwork,
installed the door handle and latch, painted the copper plumbing
silver to match the chrome fixtures, and installed finish fixtures
like the towel bar, toilet paper holder, and grab bars in the
shower.

Detail of toilet plumbing and toilet paper holder. The electric
baseboard header is the only thing in the entire bathroom that's
original from the old bathroom. My plan is to redo the heating system
for the entire condo, so I had them leave it in for now.

Towel rack next to the medicine cabinet. Reflected in the mirror
is the very fishy shower curtain that my mom gave me, thanks mom!

Grab bars in the shower. Their horizontal location is determined
by the studs in the wall, so they are not symmetrical, which is
perhaps unaesthetic but so be it.

Detail of the door latch.

Detail of the pedestal sink plumbing, these are copper pipes painted
silver. The flexible piping is intended to protect against leaks from
jarring or such things ... this is the first time I've seen it, but
Ralph tells me it's the new and coming thing.
It's a great relief to have the work done and the new bathroom in use.
But there's still some little details that need to be addressed. What
I'm going to do is live in it for a couple weeks, and compile a list
of things that still need to be done. Here's a start:
- A ring next to the sink for hand towels
- Tiled backsplash above sink, to protect wall from moisture
- Blinds or frosting on window for privacy
- Bracket above window for hanging plants
- Second support bar for shower head, on other side
- "Skirts" for lavatory plumbing where it enters the wall
- Decorative strip (wallpaper or paint) above lav and toilet
